Reading Football Club embarked on their debut Premier League campaign in the 2006-07 season, following their record-breaking Championship win. Under manager Steve Coppell, the Royals achieved a remarkable eighth-place finish, defying expectations of relegation. The 2007-08 season saw Reading remain in the Premier League, but they were ultimately relegated on the final day, finishing 18th.

During these seasons, manager Steve Coppell relied on a core group of players. Kevin Doyle was the top league goalscorer in 2006-07 with 13 goals, while Dave Kitson led the scoring in 2007-08 with 10 goals.
