Season Overview
The 2007 season marked Real Salt Lake's third year in Major League Soccer, beginning under manager John Ellinger. Following a challenging start, Ellinger was replaced in May by team captain Jason Kreis, who retired as a player to take on the head coaching role. Real Salt Lake finished the season in last place in the Western Conference with a 6-15-9 record, but secured their first-ever Rocky Mountain Cup victory. The season also saw a significant roster overhaul under Kreis's new management.
Key Players
Notable players for the vintage football shirt era included goalkeeper Nick Rimando, who was named the 2007 RSL Most Valuable Player, and captain Eddie Pope, who earned the 2007 RSL Defensive Player of the Year award. Jason Kreis transitioned from player to head coach during the season. Key arrivals who would become foundational players included Kyle Beckerman and Javier Morales.
