Season Overview

The 1996 season for Vasco da Gama saw them compete in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, where they finished in 18th place. In the Copa do Brasil, they were eliminated in the round of 16 by Cruzeiro. The team was managed by Antônio Lopes for part of the season, with Alcir Portela also serving as an interim coach.

Key Players

The squad featured a number of notable players, including the prolific striker Edmundo, who was the team's top scorer in the Brasileiro with 9 goals. Other key members of the team included Juninho Pernambucano, Ramón, and the goalkeeper Carlos Germano.
