Season Overview
Under manager Terry Yorath, Wales competed in the UEFA Euro 1992 qualifiers, finishing third in Group 5 behind Germany and Belgium. They notably defeated Belgium 3-1 at home in October 1990 and Germany 1-0 in June 1991. The team then embarked on the 1994 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign, coming agonizingly close to reaching the finals before a 1-2 home loss to Romania in November 1993 saw them finish fourth in Group 4.
Key Players
The squad during this period featured prominent players such as legendary striker Ian Rush, prolific forward Dean Saunders, and stalwart goalkeeper Neville Southall. Ian Rush was a top scorer in the Euro 1992 qualifiers. Paul Bodin, who notably missed a penalty in the crucial 1994 World Cup qualifier against Romania, wore number 14 for Wales in the 1990/91 season. The shirt is from Umbro, a prominent brand in football kits of the era.
