Season Overview
The 1999-2000 season was a tale of two halves for Bolton Wanderers, with Sam Allardyce taking over as manager in October and guiding the team to a 6th place finish in the First Division. This secured a play-off spot, and the club also enjoyed impressive runs to the semi-finals of both the FA Cup and the Worthington Cup. The following 2000-01 season saw the club build on this momentum, finishing 3rd in the league. They went on to win the play-off final, beating Preston North End 3-0 to secure promotion back to the Premier League after a three-year absence.
Key Players
Managed by Sam Allardyce from October 1999, the squad featured a blend of experience and emerging talent. Key players during this successful period included top scorer Eiður Guðjohnsen, goalkeeper Jussi Jääskeläinen, and club stalwart Guðni Bergsson.
