The Tournament
This vintage football shirt celebrates South Korea's participation in a significant period for the national team, encompassing the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the 2007 AFC Asian Cup. At the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, under manager Dick Advocaat, South Korea secured a victory against Togo and drew with France, though they were ultimately eliminated in the group stage. The Taegeuk Warriors then competed in the 2007 AFC Asian Cup, co-hosted by four Southeast Asian nations, where they achieved a third-place finish after defeating Japan in a penalty shootout.
Key Players
The 2006-07 era featured several prominent South Korean talents. Midfielder Park Ji-sung, then playing for Manchester United, was a vital presence in the squad. Forward Ahn Jung-hwan made an impact, scoring during the 2006 World Cup. Defender Lee Young-pyo, playing for Tottenham Hotspur, was also a key figure. Goalkeeper Lee Woon-jae captained the team in both major tournaments, while forward Lee Chun-soo contributed with goals.
